After returning from World War II, our founder William E. Mahone found himself back in his hometown, armed with a $1600 loan, a love of carpentry, and a dream. Named in homage to Atlas, the famed Greek titan, William's store certainly followed in its namesake's footsteps of strength and endurance and grew more and more as the years marched on.
Sadly, William suffered a fatal heart attack in 1972, leaving his business in the capable hands of his son, Bill Jr., daughter-in-law Laura, and granddaughters Jessica and Annie. By 1984, the Mahone family had doubled the size of their flooring operation, adding to their flooring showroom and building a warehouse.
The year 2000 was a vital year for our team, marking the launch of our second showroom in North San Antonio off Highway 281 & Donella Road. Our partnership with the industry's largest independent flooring cooperative, Carpet One, allowed us to expand our local presence even further, sharing our purchasing power and resources with over 1,000 stores around the continent while maintaining our local footprint.
By 2007, the third generation of the Mahone family, Billy Mahone III joined our team, followed by Jessica's son, Matt McCarthy in 2018. With years of incredible successes under our belts, we expanded to an additional showroom in Northwest San Antonio off Highway 1604 & Braun Road in 2008, allowing our warehouse and accounting departments to operate from a more centralized location.
These days, Atlas Floors Carpet One continues to operate as a family business with Bill Mahone Sr.’s descendants at the helm: Jessica Mahone-McCarthy (President) & Matt McCarthy (VP of Sales & Marketing).
